Purpose

Old Salem Sertoma Club is a civic club in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, dedicated to making a difference in the community by

  • helping special needs children and those with communicative disorders
  • increasing awareness of community issues including the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing
  • developing leadership skills of members
  • building social capital by bringing members of different backgrounds together.

To achieve these purposes, the club

  • provides speaker programs at monthly dinner meetings
  • engages members in fund-raising and sponsorship activities that benefit the following programs:
  • offers a $1,000 scholarship (annual) to an eligible student with a communicative disorder or who plans to pursue a degree in this field (e.g. speech language-pathology). Eligibility requirements include residence in Forsyth County.
  • supports members who accept leadership positions
  • offers opportunities for socializing and fellowship.
